About me
Hello My name is Conrad Angelo Delos Reyes, I am a mid-20s Filipino in Spain, I am a language assistant under the Auxiliar de Conversación program.
A Spanish name pronounced in English living in the Philippines
I'd like to introduce to you my home country Philippines, where we have Spanish names that's pronounced in American English. You can understand the confusion some Spanish people they get when they read my name and decide to talk to me in full Spanish because they (rightfully) assume I’m Spanish, oh lo siento, tengo un nombre en español pero solo entiendo un poco de español.
I was born in a province called Isabela (named after Queen Isabella of Spain)
besides Isabela, I also lived in other Philippine cities specifically Baguio and Manila.
The Philippines
The Philippines is an archipelago with ~7,641 islands and around 109 million people. It’s name came from Spanish explorer Ruy López de Villalobos, during his expedition in 1542, named the islands of Leyte and Samar "Felipinas" after Philip II of Spain, then the Prince of Asturias. Eventually the name "Las Islas Filipinas" would be used to cover the archipelago's Spanish possessions[1]
